Chiesa di Santa Maria delle Grazie

CHURCH OF THE MADONNA OF THE MIRACLES

The ancient sanctuary of the Madonna of the Miracles is located within walking distance of the Basilica of Saint Flaviano.  The first information of the church dates back to 1333, the year in which the community of Montefiascone started building a hospital that was connected to it.  In 1465 the church belonged to the Servite order  and in 1492, the old and tattered church was rebuilt with the help of the community.

Chiesa di San Pietro

CHURCH OF SAN PIETRO

A single nave, the current appearance of the interior is the result of the work of renovations that have affected the building, starting from 1719. Two alters with plaster decorations distinguish the side walls, one on the right houses a painting depicting San Giuseppe con Gesù Bambino e Santi  and, to the left, a Madonna con Bambino e Santi. There is a magnificent central altar that dates to the same time, which is adorned with a painting depicting La Madonna in gloria e Santi.

PIERI BUTI PALACE – MUNICIPAL LIBRARY

The building, now home to the Municipal Library, dates back to the 16th century and is attributed by some to Antonio da Sangallo the Younger, by others to Vignola, although these imaginative attributions remain unsupported by any historical documentation. At the beginning of the nineteenth century, the building belonged to the Pieri family, a family that later combined its surname with that of the Buti family.

CHURCH (Basilica) OF SAN FLAVIANO

The current church of San Flaviano, formed from two overlapping rooms, started being built in the eleventh century to replace an earlier building. In 1032 the small church of Santa Maria, now ruined, was completely reconstructed and dedicated to the martyr Flaviano. A headstone, now mounted on the counterfacade, gives us information about the event and attributed credit to the fervor of the people of Montefiascone and to the generosity of a certain person named Lando.
